About
About the Bureau
Who we are, what we do, what we do not do, and why a site about business loans would tell you not to take one.
What this is
Business Lending Bureau publishes independent research and plain-English explanation about how small business financing actually works. It is written for the borrower's side of the table.
There is a great deal of content about business loans on the internet, and most of it is written to route you toward whichever product pays the publisher the most. That is why merchant cash advances appear so often near the top of "best business loans" lists, and why CDFIs — which lend at a fraction of the cost — appear almost nowhere.
What we do
- Explain each financing product, including what it costs in the terms that matter.
- Publish current rate data with sources and dates, and update it when the underlying numbers move rather than on a content schedule.
- Build calculators that answer the questions that decide a loan.
- Publish the underlying datasets openly at /data/ so anyone can check our arithmetic.
What we are not
- Not a lender. We do not lend money and we cannot approve anything.
- Not a broker. We do not submit applications on your behalf and we do not take a commission for placing you with a lender.
- Not a lead generator. We do not sell or share the details you send us. See our privacy policy.
- Not licensed professionals. Nothing here is legal, tax, or investment advice. For decisions of consequence, use an attorney and an accountant.
How we are paid
Business Lending Bureau currently earns no compensation from any lender, broker, or financing provider. The site is published by Resultex Media Group LLC and funded by its other operations. If that changes, we will say so plainly on the disclosure page and on every page it affects, before it affects anything.
Why we will tell you not to borrow
Because it is frequently the correct answer, and because a site that never says it is not worth reading. A business with a structural profitability problem does not have a financing problem, and borrowing against it makes the situation worse and faster. If your situation looks like that to us, we will say so.
